It provides a scoped, curriculum-specific selection of beer styles, grounded in the same sensory-first model and canonical definitions used across the Global Beer Index.
Education views prioritize clarity, consistency, and teachability over breadth or unrestricted exploration.
What is the Education View?
The Education View is a dedicated Explorer configuration tied to a specific course, syllabus, or certification program.
Each Education view includes:
A fixed set of beer styles, aligned with the curriculum
Canonical sensory definitions for each included style
Optional exam-focused filtering
Structured comparison and analysis within the defined scope
All data is derived from the same canonical style model used in PRO and Competition views — only the scope and presentation differ.

Canonical sensory definitions
Every style is described using the 15 calibrated GBI sensory dimensions, ensuring consistent terminology and interpretation.

Exam-focused mode (where applicable)
Education Views may include an exam-only mode, limiting visibility and comparison to styles explicitly included in the exam scope. Switching between exam-focused and full curriculum modes does not change definitions or sensory data — only the visible scope.
Curriculum-aligned naming
Style names, groupings, and labels may follow the terminology used in the course or certification program, while remaining canonically defined.

What the Education View is not
To avoid confusion, the Education View is not:
A full canonical browser
A replacement for PRO access

Style structure in Education views
In Education views, styles are presented as a single, curriculum-aligned set.
The internal classification of styles is intentionally hidden to reduce conceptual overhead and support learning objectives.
Learners interact only with the styles that are relevant to their course, without exposure to underlying categorisation rules.
Education in Action
All styles are modelled using the same 15 elements — from colour and body to bitterness and fermentation character.
Filter with purpose for exam preparation, or compare styles based on their actual structural profile.
Relationship to PRO and Competition views
All GBI Explorer views share the same foundation:
The same sensory model
The same canonical style definitions
The same underlying data
They differ only in scope and intent:
- Free — open access to core styles
- PRO — unrestricted access to the full canonical style set
Education — curriculum-specific, didactic configuration
Competition — category-based reference for competitions
The underlying data model and style definitions remain identical across all views. Education views are not subsets of PRO, and PRO is not a replacement for curriculum-aligned Education views.
